Our History

On December 15, 1980, a group of small business owners realized their dream of opening a local bank that knew you by name and could offer solutions to your personal and business financial needs. Below is everything you wanted to know about Plumas Bank and more. For more detailed information check out our Investor Relations site.

Our Mission

Plumas Bank is strongly committed to creating excellence in value:

For our clients, shareholders and communities; by supplying the best financial products and services tailored to meet individual needs with integrity; through employees proactively dedicated to understanding and providing the specific needs of our clients; with a devotion to our communities to positively impact the quality of life for our neighbors; and to provide a financially successful company to properly reward our shareholders and supply our communities with a stable and valued employer.

Our History

There was once a time when you could walk into a bank and feel at home. A time when people knew you by name, not by number. We miss those times. From the first day we opened our doors, we have set out to rekindle the spirit of a neighborhood bank. Our people are dedicated to finding solutions to your financial needs and to helping you reach your financial goals. We pride ourselves on being able to offer all of the services and high-tech support of a big bank. But we have never forgotten the importance of fostering that intangible quality of a local bank—sense of community.

In 1978, a small group of community-minded citizens had a vision—to create a bank that was operated by and for the members of the Plumas County community. By the end of 1980, the dream was realized with the opening of the first Plumas Bank in Quincy.

From there we grew steadily. In 1981 we opened our second office in downtown Portola. By 1985, we constructed a branch in Greenville and acquired the Wells Fargo branch in Quincy. After expanding into Westwood in 1987, and Susanville and Chester in 1988, we saw our assets top the $100 million mark.

We continued to expand and established our seventh branch in Alturas in 1994. Then in 1998, through the acquisition of two Bank of America branches, we opened up an office in Fall River Mills and combined branches in Chester.

The Truckee office opened in early 2001 following the Bank’s 20th Anniversary celebration. The same year, the Bank’s assets soared to over $250 million as its website, plumasbank.com, and internet banking were introduced. In 2002, Plumas Bancorp, a holding company for Plumas Bank, was formed.

Plumas Bank expanded into Tahoe City and purchased five branches from Placer Sierra Bank in Kings Beach, Loyalton, Truckee, Quincy and Portola in late 2003.

On May 18, 2005, Plumas Bancorp entered the NASDAQ market.

In December 2006, we opened a Commercial Real Estate Loan Office in Reno, Nevada. In June 2007, we expanded into the Redding market and established a branch office. Also in 2007, Plumas Bank opened a Small Business Lending Office in Auburn and achieved nationwide Preferred Lender Program (“PLP”) status with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). During 2014, the Bank initiated a number of strategic actions which positioned the Company for additional opportunity, including the opening of a commercial and agricultural loan production office in Chico, California. In February 2015, we filed an application with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to establish a full-service branch in Reno, Nevada so that we could expand our offerings in the Northern Nevada region. We opened our full-service branch in Reno, Nevada on our 35th Anniversary, December 15, 2015. In April 2016, we expanded north of California and opened a commercial and agricultural loan production office in Klamath Falls, Oregon. In June 2018, we expanded our commercial and ag lending services to cover Carson City, Nevada and the surrounding Sierra Region. In October 2018, Plumas Bank acquired the Carson City, Nevada branch of Mutual of Omaha Bank which enabled us to better serve our Nevada client base and ultimately create long-term value for our shareholders.

In April 2020, we purchased and remodeled a property in Tahoe City, California to offer a bright, modern branch office and expansive community room to the North Lake Tahoe community. In early 2021, we relocated the corporate office of Plumas Bancorp , the parent company of Plumas Bank, to Reno, Nevada. Plumas bank’s headquarters remain in Quincy, California where the bank was founded in 1980. Then in July 2021, Bank of Feather River merged with Plumas Bank and we added our fourteenth branch location at Yuba City, California.

Where We Are Today

Today, Plumas Bank remains a locally managed bank. We continue to recognize that our most important assets are our clients, employees, and stockholders, and realize that without them, our success would not be possible.

As one of Northeastern California’s largest private employers—with over 175 employees—Plumas Bank contributes over $14 million annually to the area’s economy, through payroll, philanthropy and local purchasing. Plumas Bank serves the banking and investment needs of businesses and families throughout Plumas, Lassen, Sierra, Modoc, Shasta, Placer, Nevada, Sutter, Washoe and Carson City Counties. As always, our motto “HERE. For Good.” serves as our guiding ideal.

Plumas Bank in Portola, CA

Plumas Bank opened the Portola branch in 1981. Portola is a rural mountain community in Northern California’s Plumas County. Home to one of the largest railroad museums in the Western U.S., Portola is one of several small towns that define California’s Lost Sierra communities which offer abundant campgrounds, hiking trails, rivers and lakes. The nearby town of Graeagle attracts tourism every year with fun community events and terrific golf courses. Portola’s local industries include retail, tourism and family-run businesses.
