About Us:
Escape the city, not the comforts
Everyone gets a timeless vacation at Gray Eagle Lodge in the heart of the Lakes Basin Recreation area. Take a deep breath, turn off the “devices”, and check-in to your private cabin…your vacation has begun! Since our nightly package includes breakfast and dinner, everyone gets a break from the kitchen! Our on-site restaurant, Firewoods, offers the perfect setting for morning plans to be decided on and dinners complete with recounts of the day’s adventures! Kids will leave their “virtual” world and experience the real world of exploring alpine lakes, waterfalls, and wildlife with the family and friends. Your four-legged friends can come, sit, and stay too! This unforgettable escape offers natural beauty, outdoor challenges, and the opportunity to create memories that will last a lifetime!
National Geographic Names Gray Eagle Lodge as Top 10
National Geographic Traveler named Gray Eagle Lodge as one of the Top Ten North American Classic Summer Lodges. We are so honored to be recognized! Here’s what they had to say about us:
Once they find Gray Eagle Lodge off a two-lane road, most guests have little use for their cars. Days here are spent on foot, hiking to alpine lakes in the Sierras (cabins come equipped with day packs) or going for a dip in the swimming hole fed by a 15-foot waterfall. “There are no planned activities,” explains Tracy Morris, who has taken her children here for years, “unless you count the evening marshmallow toasting around the fire pit or the games of flashlight tag planned by kids who have never met before but have become fast friends.”
While there are no planned activities for kids, each day a “gang” of kids get together to play volleyball, take a dip in our beautiful swimming hole, or play pool in the game room. After a day of family reconnecting, the evenings are filled with sticky, roasted marshmallows and an impromptu game of flashlight tag with new friends. Thank you, National Geographic, for the recognition as one of the best lodges the US has to offer. You can book a stay in one of our cabins and join the many families that have been creating memories for generations.
Our Cabins
Our 20 cabins and two Lodge guest rooms are nestled in the Lakes Basin of the Plumas National Forest. The cabins, most located near Graeagle Creek, are well off the beaten path and offer safety and privacy for all guests. Check-out each cabin description and determine which would fit your needs; a private two-person cabin high atop our property or a large cabin along the creek that can fit the whole family. Feel free to contact us with any questions you might have!
Firewoods Restaurant
A hearty, warm welcome is what you can expect when you arrive at Gray Eagle Lodge. Inside, the Lodge transports you back to Lake Tahoe circa 1950. The massive stone fireplace adds a warming glow to our living room, Firewoods Restaurant, and full bar. Our game room hosts pool, ping pong, games, and a selection of puzzles and reading material. Outside, relax on the patio next to the perennial garden with an adult beverage while the kids play volleyball or race around the lodge on their bikes. A pick-up game of bocce ball is always a great way to enjoy your family or meet new friends. After dinner enjoy the bonfire, make S’Mores, and enjoy the star-filled night sky. Free Wi-Fi is available in the Lodge.
Lodge season is from Memorial Day to mid-October each year.
