Walton’s Grizzly Lodge provides the ideal overnight summer camp experience for children ages 7–15. Located in the Sierras of Northern California, camp life centers around our private lake. Campers choose from over 40 activities daily including water sports, horseback riding, arts and crafts, athletics, archery and our extensive ropes course challenges which features a 500 foot zip line across our lake.

Operated by fourth generation owners and directors, the rich history and tradition of Walton’s make it the premier residential summer sleepaway camp on the West Coast. Since 1926, Walton’s Grizzly Lodge has been providing a quality camping experience where memories are made to last a lifetime.

Meet The Team

Adam and Julie Walton with their daughters, Georgia and EllaADAM AND JULIE WALTON WITH THEIR DAUGHTERS, GEORGIA AND ELLAAdam & Julie Walton,Owners and DirectorsAdam and Julie met at camp and were married in 1991. Their daughters, Ella and Georgia, enjoy spending their summers at Walton’s. Adam grew up in camp. He holds a Bachelors Degree and Teaching Credential from CSU Chico and is a former special education teacher and current high school basketball coach. Julie earned her Bachelors Degree in Business, did her graduate work in Education and taught elementary school for ten years. 
Erica and Jared Stein with their children, Greta, Abby and CharlieERICA AND JARED STEIN WITH THEIR CHILDREN, GRETA, ABBY AND CHARLIEJared & Erica Stein,Owners and DirectorsJared and Erica met at camp and were married in 2000. They have three children, Abby, Charlie and Greta. Jared spent his childhood at camp. He graduated with a degree in Recreation Administration from CSU, Chico and has an extensive background in ropes course building and facilitation. Erica has worked at Walton’s since 1994. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from CSU, Chico and works as a Registered Nurse.
  
Paul DolfiniPAUL DOLFINIPaul Dolfini,Assistant DirectorPaul began working at Walton’s during the summer of 2014 and became part of our year round staff in 2019. He graduated with a degree in Exercise Physiology from CSU, Chico and is currently coaching high school basketball. Paul has a background in rock climbing, ropes courses and  backpacking. He is also the Director of our Outdoor Adventure Program. Paul recently married Riley Grim, who was a camper and staff member at Walton’s for many summers.
Mara McDonoughMARA MCDONOUGHMara McDonough,Assistant DirectorMara began working at Walton’s during the summer of 2018 and joined our year round staff in 2022. She graduated from Colby College with a degree in Environmental Science. She has a passion for sustainability and previously worked at a solar energy company with a focus on sustainability and communication. In her free time, Mara enjoys ultimate frisbee, crafts, hiking, and reading.
Ella WaltonELLA WALTONElla Walton,Assistant DirectorElla began working at Walton’s in 2015 and joined our year round staff in 2022. She graduated from Colby College in Waterville, Maine with a degree in Government and Global Studies. After graduating, Ella worked on a California Congressional campaign during the 2020 election cycle. Ella is passionate about many outdoor activities and spends the offseason in the mountains working at Sugar Bowl Resort.

Camp Activities

One of the most exciting aspects of camp life for our campers is deciding which of our many activities to choose from.

Campers can go horseback riding along beautiful mountain trails, participate in our extensive ropes course program, fish in our private lake or play a wide variety of sports. For those who want to be on the water, we offer water skiing, wake boarding, stand up paddle boarding, swimming and boating. When campers want to take it easy they can choose from a wide variety of craft activities.
