Hours: Part-time, 18 hours per week

Salary: $18 – $22 per hour, based on experience

Overview: The Visitor Center Coordinator is a key role responsible for providing exceptional service to tourists and locals, managing staff and volunteers, and maintaining the Visitor Center’s operations. This position requires a proactive, organized, and community-focused individual who can effectively promote the Lost Sierra region and support the Chamber of Commerce’s initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist tourists and locals with information about the Lost Sierra, provide materials, answer questions, and get people excited to explore our region.
  • Manage and plan for staff, both volunteer and paid, to accommodate working Visitor Center hours.
  • Oversee, schedule, coordinate, and train all volunteers necessary to support the Visitor Center’s days and hours of operation; create a Training Binder and Materials for the Visitor Center volunteer staff.
  • Maintain the “Visitor Center Log” that contains data elements and metrics to enable the Board to monitor the success of the Visitors Center and inform operational changes if necessary.
  • Maintain the Lost Sierra Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center Operating Calendar, identifying and verifying the work schedule and the specific volunteer’s name, phone, and email address.
  • Identify and recommend content to support and build-out our “Virtual Visitors Center” on our Discover the Lost Sierra website during weekly Marketing and Events Subcommittee Meetings.
  • Act as the point of contact between the Board and Chamber Champion & Visitor Center paid and volunteer staff.
  • Cultivate Social Media and News Content by taking photos and developing social media content that highlights the Visitor Center and promotes services in partnership with businesses.
  • Manage retail floor space for rolling sponsorship displays and inventory management for all retail goods.
  • Coordinate with the Marketing team for inventory re-order points and with the Chamber Champion to strategize on event-specific retail goods.
  • Provide SKU rationalization and inventory reports to the marketing committee.
  • Present any community needs, potential sponsors, etc., to the board.
  • Assist the Chamber Champion with Event Sponsorships & Coordination.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Hours of Operation and Staffing:

The Visitor Center Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the staffing and operations of the Visitor Center according to the following schedule:

  • Seasonal Operation: The Visitor Center is open from May 1 to October 31 and closed from November 1 to April 30. Special operation hours apply on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of Thanksgiving Day Weekend with volunteer coverage only.
  • Weekly Schedule:
  • Monday: Open from 10am to 3pm; staffed by volunteers with the Coordinator or designated staff present from 9:45am to 3:15pm.
  • Tuesday: Closed.
  • Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: Open from 10am to 3pm; staffed by paid staff with the Coordinator or designated staff present from 9:45am to 3:15pm.
  • Saturday and Sunday: Open from 10am to 4pm; staffed by volunteers with the Coordinator or designated staff present from 9:45am to 4:15pm.
  • Staff Hours: The Coordinator is expected to be on-site 15 minutes prior to opening and remain 15 minutes after closing to ensure proper opening procedures and secure closure of the Visitor Center. This time is also to prepare for the day and wrap up any necessary tasks post-operation hours.

Note: Volunteer refers to individuals who generously donate their time to assist with the operations of the Visitor Center. The Coordinator is expected to manage these volunteers, including scheduling, training, and ensuring they have the necessary resources to provide the best experience for visitors.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in visitor center management, tourism, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation.
  • Experience in retail management and inventory control is a plus.
  • Passion for promoting the Lost Sierra region and supporting community initiatives.
