From The Pastor
“Come and see what happens when we work together to create a community of love by loving God and each other. All are welcome!”
Portola United Methodist Church has been a cornerstone in our community for over 100 years and is best known for providing a safe, loving, and nurturing place for anyone who walks through our doors. You are welcome here no matter where you are on your spiritual journey. Just listen for the “Old Bell” ringing at 10:30 on Sunday morning, or give me a call at 775-233-3439 or send me an email at pastorbeckyumc@gmail.com. I would love to meet a new friend!
Gentle Winds,

The Church’s Story
Minister J.C. Carpenter (1918) was the first Methodist Minister of record for PUMC. In 1921 the church purchased an unfinished house located behind the church and when work on the house was completed in 1922, it became the first parsonage. During the Prohibition Period of 1920-1933 there were unconfirmed reports that an unnamed pastor and local sheriff together were operating an illegal still in the church parsonage. This rumor is probably unfounded as they were more likely devoted followers of the holy “Spirits!”
In 1925, PMC was officially named a Mission Church under the Methodist Conference and Rev. Ralph Crawford (1925-1927) became the first regularly assigned pastor. A period of growth quickly followed with the addition of a social hall/Sunday school, kitchen and choir loft. See the dedication of the current worship space in the Dedication video from 1948.
We are now known as the Portola United Methodist Church. Praise God! Come and join us, we would love to meet you!
